About the event

Learn how to write with structure and style as we travel back in time through U.S. History. Students will work through the Institute for Excellence in Writing's (IEW) units 1-9 as they learn to take notes, retell narrative stories, summarize references, write from pictures, complete research papers, participate in creative / inventive writing, and literature critiques. This course is an excellent class for students in grades 6-8, or returning IEW students who are ready for more of a challenge. Vocabulary, grammar elements, a literature presentation, and a research paper will all be included in this course.

Please note that this is the first semester of a year-long course.

***Parents are responsible for purchasing the U.S. History-Based Writing Lessons Student book (2nd edition, November 2019) prior to the first day of class (https://iew.com/shop/products/us-history-based-writing-lessons-student-book-only), as well as either purchasing or printing out the Student Resource Notebook from IEW.

Literature that will be introduced in the fall semester are:

Give Me Liberty (T.M. Elliott)

By the Great Horn Spoon! (Sid Fleischman)
