Modern World History-Based Writing Lessons - Grades 6-9

Learn how to write with structure and style as we travel back in time through Modern World History.  This course addresses different cultures throughout the world, including the Age of Exploration, World War II, and important figures in modern history.  Students will work through the Institute for Excellence in Writing's (IEW) units 5-9 as they learn to complete key word outlines, summarize multiple references, write from pictures, complete a formal research paper, complete inventive / creative writing assignments, and formulate a critique.  This course is an excellent class for students in grades 6-8, or returning IEW students who are ready for more of a challenge.

Vocabulary and grammar will be included in this course

***Parents are responsible for purchasing the Modern World History-Based Writing Lessons Student book (2nd edition, January 2020) prior to the first day of class (https://iew.com/shop/products/modern-world-history-based-writing-lessons-student-book-only), as well as either purchasing or printing out the Student Resource Notebook from IEW.

Spring Semester Mandatory Literature - Students will read ONE of the following books:

An Elephant in the Garden (Michael Morpurgo)

The Diary of Anne Frank (Anne Frank)

Parents who chose to assign their own book will email me with their choice.

April 13, 20, 27 (No class April 6)

May 4, 11, 18

The cost is $55 per month.  The semester total is $275.
